Throughout the reviews you will notice the use of several terms to describe features and functions of the filtering software. Below is a list compiled of the most common terms used and a short description of their meaning and relevance.

URL Category -
This refers to the category of website which the filters can block or allow such as Adult content, Crime, Dating, etc.
Keyword Based -
This is referring to the filter blocking a web paged based on the detection of a keyword found on or within the website. A keyword list is normally defined by the user.
Dynamic Analysis -
This refers to the ability of the filter to analyse a web page dynamically and determine the category of a page based on its content. This is better than a blacklist because of the rate that websites change and new ones appear a blacklist can never be 100% up to date. Dynamic analysis is more sophisticated than simple keyword blocking and is better at differentiating pages with similar words but of different categories resulting in greater accuracy and reduced false blocking. This feature is particularly useful in blocking websites that have content that changes on a regular basis such as news sites. Some days the content may be appropriate whereas others it may not be.

Whitelist -
